What is trauma treatment?

Trauma treatment is about healing from challenging experiences that have caused substantial distress or pain in your life. Evidenced based therapies for trauma treatment are a bit different than typical “talk therapy,” since trauma is stored differently in the brain and requires more integrated approaches to healing. Trauma can be a single event like a car accident, but it can also be ongoing, repeated events that caused distress and challenge and therefore are not necessarily boiled down to one memory.

What is EMDR?

EMDR is an extensively researched trauma treatment that involves briefly focusing on traumatic memories while engaging in bi-lateral stimulation (typically eye movements). Grace is an EMDR trained clinician, having completed 50+ hours of training and consultations. She uses EMDR to support clients looking for healing from traumatic or otherwise impactful experiences. This is a really supportive treatment for PTSD, complex PTSD (cptsd), as well as eating disorders. You can refer to this link to learn more about EMDR.

Can EMDR help my Eating disorder?

Yes! Trauma and eating disorders are linked, in fact we have a blog post about that. Eating disorders are often an attempt to cope with something challenging, which includes traumatic experiences.

What is Lifespan Integration?

Lifespan integration is a set of trauma protocols that includes using a timeline of memories from your life. This is a body based treatment that supports the brain’s natural ability to rewire from the negative impacts of trauma. Grace has undergone extensive training in lifespan integration and trauma therapy and finds it very useful when working with a number of issues, including PTSD, complex PTSD, self esteem issues, disordered eating behaviors, and experiences of abuse and neglect.
